Let me introduce myself…

Sarah Heyes Dog Behaviour

Hi, I’m Sarah and I’m committed to helping dog owners like you build close bonds with their four-legged friends. With a clear understanding of canine behaviour based on scientific research and years of experience of working with dogs, I have the skills to guide you and your dog towards a happy and harmonious future together.

Registered as a Provisional Member* of the Association of Pet Behaviour Councilors (APBC) as a Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CAB), I am committed to delivering positive, compassionate and ethical behaviour modification and training methods.

I am qualified to degree level in Applied Animal Behaviour in a Graduate Diploma recognised by the Animal Behaviour and Training Council. Prior to this I gained a BSc in Ecology with honours in Wildlife and Fisheries management from the University of Edinburgh.

I prioritise building a relationship of trust between dog and owner. I believe in building firm foundations by helping owners understand why their dog is behaving in a certain way, before taking a wholistic approach to achieving behavioural goals.

I strongly advocate the use of reward based methods of training and ensure the highest welfare standards. I regularly attend professional workshops and seminars to keep my skills up to date and in line with current scientific research in applied animal behaviour.

*As a Provisional CAB Member of the APBC, I have demonstrated that I have the appropriate level of Knowledge and Understanding for the professional role of Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CAB). I am now gaining the practical experience necessary to be assessed as a CAB and therefore become a Full Member of the APBC. The APBC supports its Provisional Members undertaking behaviour consultations.

Qualifications

Why I love my job…

I have spent my entire life with dogs as an essential part of my family, and I cannot imagine my life without dogs at the heart of it.

I have followed a very varied career path from Red Squirrel Conservation in the Lake District, to creating community nature sites from industrial land in Europe and designing award winning private gardens in Cheshire.

COVID 19 and subsequent redundancy gave me the opportunity to rethink my working life. So I set up as a professional dog walker whilst expanding my knowledge through studying to degree level in canine behaviour. I now happily dedicate myself to this work.

I believe that every dog should be a much loved edition to their human family and every dog owner should cherish the special relationship of companionship that they share with their dog.

My first dog, Mr Shaun. An RSPCA rescue collie/German Shepherd cross. Such a beautiful boy and a gentle soul.
